Review: Guilin Zen Tea House

The Zen Tea House, Guilin, China

No.8 Shijiayuan Road, Qixing District, Guilin, China 541001

Every now and again if I really like a place I like to recommend it, this is such a case.

Entrance

The Zen Tea House is a bit hidden in a backstreet which is a good thing, not so noisy and you have a nice view over one of the many Li River branches.

It is located in the heart of Guilin. While we don’t mind taking a bus, we prefer to do as much as possible on foot, which makes it a good starting point for all kind of activities. The Seven Star Park for example is just around the corner, a couple of walking minutes away and the town center is also in easy walking distance, unless you are American, then take a cab, which is also cheap and plenty to be found.

Back to the Zen Tea House.
Once we arrived at the reception we were offered tea and a seat while the check-in was being completed. By the way, it’s the kind of place you take your shoes off and wear slippers. Always a good sign. English is spoken here, which is very convenient for us.

Also we were briefed in the best places to visit, where you can have delicious goose, and delicious it was, how to get to places and all the things you need to know.
It is obvious they enjoy what they do and what you to have the best experience possible, not only in their Guesthouse, but all around Guilin and further.
Our room was on the 5th floor, they have a lift, thank god, once on the 5th you actually go outside for a moment over a rooftop terrace with a pavilion where in the evenings you can sit around, drink a glas of wine and chill, while overlooking the river, very nice indeed.

Our next pleasant surprise was our room, here also everything spotlessly clean an d new looking. The room was a good size with TV, WiFi, kettle, tea and water. The ensuite bathroom again spotlessly clean and new.

We had Chinese breakfast in the mornings, which was very tasty, dumplings and noodles.
Before leaving and after returning to the house we were offered tea. Always different ones, local and organic, ginger tea, etc.
The whole crew of the Zen Tea House are very welcoming, helpful, and really go the extra mile for you.

The Zen Tea house is easily better than some places we paid 4-5 times the amount for.
I can highly recommend this place and would go there again without hesitation.
There aren’t many places I can say that about.

a couple more pictures…
