Dear Deutsche Bahn (German Rail),…

  …having travelled through Japan with JR (Japan Rail), I feel like I need to tell you some things. No, I am not going to rant about the ongoing train driver’s strike, though it’s apparently en vogue in Germany (which is sad, by the way, but as I said, this is not what I want to talk about here). What I do want to talk about, is how exciting and great it is, to go anywhere in Japan by train.

  For our Foodie friends: a selection of some of the food we had in Japan. Featuring Sushi, Sashimi and Ramen (of course) and other stuff. A whole lot of the restaurants have plastic versions of their dishes on display outside. Which is really helpful, especially when there are neither an English menu nor an English speaking waiter available. You can just go outside with the waiter and point out what you want. Miyajima Island

  Miyajima is a small island, just over half an hour by train plus a ten minute ferry ride away from Hiroshima. It’s home to the famous “floating gate”, several shrines and temples (Daisho-in must be one of the most beautiful temples we’ve seen so far, the location on the foot of the mountain, and so many little gems to discover, it’s just adorable) and Mount Misen, which is great hiking terrain.
