Scroby Sand

Scroby Sand

One of the first commercial offshore windfarms in the UK sits just three kilometers off the coast in Great Yarmouth.

It consists of 30 turbines with a capacity of 60 megawatts that have been feeding electricity into the grid since 2005. The wind farm has also become a major tourist attraction: E.ON runs an information center (which was closed today, unfortunately, like half of the stores and restaurants in the city center during the winter months) and boat trips take visitors to have a closer look at the turbines. Again, these boats only operate during summer, so we admired the sight from the beach, which was also quite impressive.
