Bula Wayalailai!

Bula Wayalailai!

We’ve been away for a week now, really away (no internet anywhere, at least no decent connections…). So a lot of time for different things. Like lying around in hammocks, taking walks on the beach, snorkelling, swimming. Stuff like that. We visited two of the remote Yukawa Islands. The first three nights we spent on Wayalailai, a two hour ferry ride from Nadi. A small motorboat picked us up from the ferry and brought us to the beach, where…

Into the woods

Into the woods

Since we couldn’t enter Yosemite from it’s north-eastern side and had to go all the way back south, we decided spontaneously to stop for a day at Sequoia National Park. It’s best known for the Giant Forest, where you can wander around the impressive, grand Sequoia trees. Among them “General Sherman”, the biggest tree on earth. In Giant Forest we hiked around the big trees, that were perfect for treehugging. We had two seasons, summer and winter, in one day. We didn’t encounter…

Siesta Key: Where the sun sets most beautifully…

Siesta Key: Where the sun sets most beautifully…

We’ve spent the last four days in Siesta Key close to Sarasota. A beautiful little island with the most perfect beaches we’ve seen so far. Very broad and with sand like powdered sugar – so white, it almost looks like snow. With lots of wildlife to watch, funny shorebirds running around. And a sunset that’s breathtaking. There is also a small village with cute little cafés, shops and restaurants. Quite touristy, but not exaggerated like Key West. All in all a…

Everglades and Key West

Everglades and Key West

So here is our report on two sights that couldn’t be more different. The untouched nature of the Everglades and the Disney-like tourist magnet of Key West.   Everglades The Everglades reminded me of the Norfolk Broads. Just warmer and with more alligators. Of course we took a ride in an airboat through the beautiful landscape and saw some alligators “in action” (action meaning lying around dozing in the sun) and a lot of different birds. I guess alligators are the laziest animals on…

Welcome to Miami (Beach)

Welcome to Miami (Beach)

YEEEAAAAHHHHHH ! I am in Miami Bitch! (We saw people wearing T-Shirts with that printed on). Yep we’re in Miami and what a difference it is to the Dominican Republic. It’s clean, tidy, by far not so noisy, a bit more expensive, and it feels cold ! Well in comparison at least. Still, lots of sun waves, people jogging, doing the one or the other kind of workout, hm, feel kind of bad for them. Anyway Miami seems to…
