Taupo

  We spent the next two nights in Taupo. Mainly because of the free camp site we found: Reid’s Farm, beautifully located directly at the shore of the Waikato River. We spent the days walking around the town, hiking along the river and to the famous Huka Falls. Apparently, McDonald’s is an attraction in Taupo, too. They’ve built a dining room inside an old airplane.

  We arrived in Auckland on Wednesday noon with the sun shining bright. However, that changed as soon as we got our campervan and got on our way on Friday. It was raining more or less the whole weekend. We had planned hiking and walking on beaches for the weekend. On the road again

  Meet our van “Britzie”, which is going to be our home for the next three weeks. We got it today and made our way out of the city. It’s old, very thirsty, only has manual window winder (haven’t seen them for a while!), and see-saws a lot on the road. But at least it has air conditioning and power assisted steering.
